Understanding the influence peers have on each other's learning and development, SCCS has designed a mechanism to involve students in the Dean’s Discipline process. Navigators are peers who assist in upholding community standards at Columbia University. Their primary role is to provide their peers, engaged in the conduct process, with an opportunity to engage with another student who has a deep understanding and respect for our community standards and the Dean’s Discipline process.
Navigators will answer procedural questions and serve as a contact point for post hearing follow up to undergraduate students engaged in Dean’s Discipline that requests their assistance. Additionally, Navigators may contribute to the development of a community conference program, which may be used to facilitate restorative conversations. Finally, Navigators will serve as a resource to engage and educate the University community on the topics of ethics, integrity, and community standards.
